Greetings from Yulia Zaika, APECS President 2011-2012

Hello APECS Members,yulia

It’s a great pleasure for me to introduce the 2011-2012 ExCom to you: Allen Pope (UK / USA), Angelika Renner (Norway), Jennifer Provencher (Canada), Luis Guilherme Resende de Assis (Brazil), Gerlis Fugmann (ExCom Ex-Officio, Germany / Canada) and myself (Russia). All the bios of the new Executive Committee and Council are available on www.apecs.is/leadership. We are looking forward to a great year full of exciting activities and events and encourage you to learn more about the leadership team of the APECS ExCom and Council made up of 37 enthusiastic young scientists from 19 countries!

This will be another big year for APECS. As you may know, APECS has planned a lot of exciting activities inconjuction with the IPY 2012 Conference, at the AGU Fall Meeting in December, at the SCAR Open Science Conference, and many more! It’s a great opportunity for all our members to be a part of such significant events and meet in person. We also will continue to build our online resources and webinars with great career development advice.

I would also like to thank the past Council and ExCom for all their hard work – it has been an amazingly productive year for APECS with new subcommittees, working groups, workshops, webinars and many other fantastic activities. All the great highlights of the 2010-2011 term have been summarized by the outgoing executive committee in the 2010-2011 APECS Annual Report. Many thanks also to our mentors, advisory committee, Ex-Officio members and Director for their advice and expertise; you are great support to all of us!

I am looking forward to another exciting year with all of you under one large umbrella: APECS. As always, there are a lot of activities for every APECS member to get involved with, so make sure to keep visiting anytime.

All the best wishes,

Yulia Zaika
