Category:
Conferences, Meetings, and Workshops of Interest to Polar Researchers

DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the Gordon Reseach Conference (GRC) is to promote discussions and the free exchange of ideas at the research frontiers of the biological, chemical and physical sciences. These are a top-notch international series of conferences that sponsor some of the most cutting edge research that is available in the community.  Scientists with common professional interests come together for a full week of intense discussion and examination of the most advanced aspects of their field. These Conferences provide a valuable means of disseminating information and ideas in a way that cannot be achieved through the usual channels of communication - publications and presentations at large scientific meetings.

The GRC for Polar Marine Science began in 1999 and had successfully held a meeting every two years since then.  This meeting focuses on every element pertaining to polar marine studies including research examining interfaces and multi-interfaces of ocean-ice-atmosphere interactions and is normally dominated by presentations from senior scientists and experts in the field.  The meeting for 2011 for the first time will incorporate a Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) which is a Gordon Conference that is specifically organized for and by graduate students and early career scientists.  The GRS will occur two days prior to the GRC with the intention of overlapping both conferences so that students can get one-on-one feedback from their peers before the GRC begins.  Those accepted for the GRS will be able to attend the GRC.

The description will be posted on the GRC/GRS website within the next few months since this is still in the early planning stages, however, I encourage anyone interested in attending to please contact me at Also you may contact Penelope Wagner at because I would like to have some information of the demographics that are interested because I am currently working toward providing full-funding for all accepted applicants.

More information can be found at www.grc.org/programs.aspx?year=2011&program=grs_polar.
