Harmony of the North: Man and Nature. Youth View

which is to take place in

Petrozavodsk, Karelia, Russia

on November 25-26, 2010

The conference shall focus on finding solutions for sustainable development of Northern regions, and making them more attractive for the youth to live in. Such solutions should be based on the interdisciplinary approach and efficient utilization of human creative potential.

The conference shall address questions equally important for the development of northern territories and the people living there:

What are the youth’s visions of their future in the North?

What experience of the previous generations may be useful for the youth eager to develop northern territories?

What new things can the youth say or do in terms of sustainable development in the North?

Can a young person who lives in the North and utilizes it reach understanding with the nature, secure oneself a comfortable life in the North both physically and spiritually?

Can the modern society, which intends to use the natural riches of the North for its own benefit, maintain harmonious development of production facilities, social infrastructure, people and the natural environment? What can the youth contribute to this process?

Can the natural and ethnocultural uniqueness of northern regions coupled with the North-oriented intellectual potential of the youth ensure sustainable progress there?
