Jokkmokk Winter Conference

Jokkmokk Winter Conference is an annual International Climate Forum at the Arctic Circle for Students, Early Career Professionals, Decision Makers and Opinion Builders.

Main issues for the 2010 conference:
• Which impacts will the next international Climate Treaty, to be decided in December 2009 in Copenhagen, have on future development in the North?

• How does climate change influence the traditional life style of Indigenous Peoples?

• What are the impacts of a warmer Arctic and an ice-free Arctic Ocean on exploring (energy) resources and on prospects for a renewable energy future in the North?

CALL FOR POSTERS
One afternoon of the conference is designed to showcase projects and activities. This is a perfect opportunity to meet with other young researchers, participating climate experts and other mentors. Participants will present their own projects in a poster session that will facilitate open dialog and idea exchanges.  Your theme or project may be presented by a printed poster, or by photographs, graphics and texts attached on a given panel. After registration for the conference, more information will be provided via email.
Presenters of a poster session will be expected to be present on Tuesday 2 to Thursday 4 February 2010 in order to show, discuss and explain their poster.

Partial support will be available for travel costs for a limited number of participants. This applies especially for group travel arrangements. For funding, please contact

To assist participants in finding suitable lodging you will find further information under www.winterconference.se on practical issues. For travel groups, some facilities have been reserved.


Jokkmokk Winter Conference is initiated and organized by the Municipality of Jokkmokk in cooperation with University of the Arctic, Rovaniemi, Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS), the University of Tromsø, the Northern Research Forum, Luleå University of Technology, Vaartoe Centre for Sami Research at Umeå University, Murmansk University and the Sami Education Centre in Jokkmokk.
