The International Polar Year science and education community warmly encourages you to join the IPY International Programme Office from the 15th March to 19th March to celebrate the IPY Polar Week. The Polar Days have been celebrated on a quarterly basis since March 2007, focussing on all aspects of IPY Science.
In the lead up to the IPY Oslo Science Conference in June 2010, a week of activities and events around the theme 'What Happens At the Poles Affects Us All' is being planned. Whether you are a scientist, student, young researcher, teacher, artist, educator, parent, or interested for other reasons, there will be a way to join in. Examples include: 1. classroom activities, taken from the soon to be printed 'Polar Science and Global Climate: An international resource for Education and Outreach'. Attached is an English-language activity flyer for a summary of events, other languages will follow soon. 2. launch a virtual balloon to show your involvement and log where you are 3. organise or participate in an international public lecture series: See http://apecs.is/outreach 4. watch real-time web-streaming from the State of the Arctic Conference in Miami 5. a wide range of links and resources for you to download And much more! Stay tuned to http://www.ipy.org/hidden/item/2293-march-polar-week-2010-what-happens-at-the-poles-affects-us-all for further updates, information and events planned for the Polar Week. These weeks are designed as a way for the general public, teachers, and their classes to learn more about the Polar Regions and connect directly to polar researchers through simple, fun and accessible activities. If you have any plans or questions for the March IPY Polar Week, please don't hesitate to contact Nicola Munro (ipy1[at]bas.ac.uk) from IPY International Programme Office.
