Field Schools Network

louise_john_crazy_poseThe APECS Field Schools Network aims to create a community of connected field schools concerned with the polar regions, the cryosphere, and climate change. All education levels are encouraged; most APECS members are undergraduate to postdoc, but schools designed for secondary students or early faculty are encouraged to participate as well. See below for a simple list of field school details, or check out the menu on the left to find out about APECS Field Schools, recurring field schools, and one-off field programs. All schools are tagged with 'Secondary,' 'Undergrad,' 'Postgrad,' and 'Postdoc' to show their intended audience - just search for those most applicable to you. Or, search 'grad' to get both Undergrad and Postgrad or 'post' to get both Postgrad and Postdoc.

Each school has commenting enabled to allow the APECS community to share their field school experiences - feel free to include links to photos and videos, too! More importantly, login to the site to see a list of past participants that you can contact!

If you have suggestions on how to stay better connected as a group and share experiences with other field school groups, or if you are an organizer of a field school and are interested in joining our network, please contact APECS Field Schools Coordinator Graham Simpkins.

EVENT

TITLE:
I Workshop APECS Brazil: Perspectives and oportunities to early researches
WHEN:
13.10.2010 - 15.10.2010 09.00 h - 18.00 h
WHERE:
Rio de Janeiro
Category:
Conferences, Meetings, and Workshops of Interest to Polar Researchers

DESCRIPTION

The event is coordinated and organized by the APECS/BRAZIL members. APECS is an international association that has actively participated to develop knowledge and to integrate the early career scientists (ECS) involved in polar sciences. APECS activities started in Brazil in 2006; the APECS/BRAZIL Association has increased their international cooperation after the formation of the Brazilian Council in July 2009. The 1st APECS/BRAZIL Workshop and Meeting aims to join ECS and senior scientists from several different polar areas. The activities will be divided into Earth and Life Sciences, which represent the general scientific activities developed by the Brazilian scientific community. In addition, activities related to Education and Outreach will occur concomitantly. The APECS/BRAZIL representatives believe that it is important not only to generate knowledge about the poles and about the importance of those regions to everyone's lives, but also to make scientists' works available to the general public. The Workshop will gather ECS and senior scientists aiming to divulge the Brazilian activities in the Polar Regions to all participants. Additionally, we aim to show the advances and opportunities in the Brazilian polar activities, which could help young scientists interested in polar sciences. We also focus on making science easy to be understood by the general public, generating knowledge for social development and results to be applied by economy-policy strategies. The event will be open to everyone interested in Polar Sciences focusing strongly on high school students, graduate and post-graduate students, and educators. http://apecsbr-workshop.blogspot.com/
