The APECS Field Schools Network aims to create a community of connected field schools concerned with the polar regions, the cryosphere, and climate change. All education levels are encouraged; most APECS members are undergraduate to postdoc, but schools designed for secondary students or early faculty are encouraged to participate as well. See below for a simple list of field school details, or check out the menu on the left to find out about APECS Field Schools, recurring field schools, and one-off field programs. All schools are tagged with 'Secondary,' 'Undergrad,' 'Postgrad,' and 'Postdoc' to show their intended audience - just search for those most applicable to you. Or, search 'grad' to get both Undergrad and Postgrad or 'post' to get both Postgrad and Postdoc.
Each school has commenting enabled to allow the APECS community to share their field school experiences - feel free to include links to photos and videos, too! More importantly, login to the site to see a list of past participants that you can contact!
If you have suggestions on how to stay better connected as a group and share experiences with other field school groups, or if you are an organizer of a field school and are interested in joining our network, please contact APECS Field Schools Coordinator Graham Simpkins.
IceTech 2010: International Conference and Exhibition on Performance of Ships and Structures in Ice

The Arctic Section of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) together with Alaska’s Institute of the North is now well on the way to staging ICETECH 10, the premiere international conference on ships and structures in ice. The conference will take place in Anchorage starting with an opening icebreaker reception on the evening of Monday, September 20, and concluding in the late afternoon on Thursday September 23. We invite you to join in this exciting event through technical paper presentation, exhibition, delegate and accompanying person attendance, or sponsorship participation or all of the above.
The key dates for ICETECH 10 are as follows:
Abstract Submission Deadline: 20 February 2010
Abstract Acceptance: 05 April 2010
Early Registration Discount: 20 May 2010
Technical Paper Submission for Review Deadline: 20 May 2010
Notification of Acceptance or Revisions: 20 June 2010
Publication Copy Deadline: 20 July 2010
Conference Begins: Monday evening 20 September 2010
Conference Ends: Thursday afternoon 23 September 2010
Please note that the three “Deadline” dates are firm, so that authors should send in their material as early as feasible for a quicker turnaround. Abstract and paper manuscript forms are available from this website under the “conference” tab. On line registration will be available by September 2009.
The theme of the conference is "Performance of Ships and Structures in Ice" but we are including the hot topics of global warming, geopolitics, and future expectations for the Arctic through participation of Arctic Marine Shipping (AMSA) and other experts.
We are holding the conference at a very scenic location in the heart of Alaska, fully serviced at the well known five star Hotel Captain Cook, with opportunities to tour both local cultural centres, as well as more extended tours to various spectacular natural locations. At our venue, all conference and exhibition, accommodations, recreation, and dining facilities are provided, while still affording plenty of opportunity for tours before and after the conference and for accompanying persons during the conference.
You are invited to review the detailed information on our website: preliminary program, social functions, tours, accommodations, and we plan to have an on line conference registration package including meals, accommodations, and various participation options. And I truly hope you will honor us by registering and following up with participation in this exciting international exhibition and conference!
Best regards from the Organizing Committee and co-chairs of ICETECH 10 — we look forward to your participation!!
