APECS RUSSIA experience was presented at Russian Young Scientist Council Conference, co-organized by Novgorod Region Administration, Novgorod Science Coordination Centre, Russian Young Scientist Council, sponsored by Federal Grant-in-Aid Program «Human Capital for Science and Education in Innovative Russia, on "Stimulating Activity of Russian Young Scientists: Problems and Prospects " to be held November 24-25, 2010 in V. Novgorod, Russia.
Former APECS leadership, co-chair APECS Russia - Ivan Sudakov was invited to participate in this conference and awarded the travel grant from conference org. committee. He gave presentation "Career Development Workshop as a Tool for Stimulating Activity of Young Researchers". This is presentation about the 1st APECS Russia - RSHMU Career Development Workshop.
Ivan Sudakov comments:
"During conference I emphasized that Russian Young Scientist Council need incorporate the international experience to Russian reality. For example, APECS is a great sample of young scientist organization. Also for the strongly voice of Russian young polar researchers in Russian Government initiatives I establish contact with Russian Young Scientist Council. I hope that our Government will help to Russian young polar researcher organizations, e.g. APECS RUSSIA, Russian PYRN, ES, Young brunch of Russian Geographical Society and others.

APECS Russia international activitiesLarge delegation of APECS Russia members represented Russia at the 9th ACUNS International Student Conference on Northern Studies and Polar Regions Communities of Change – Building an IPY Legacy (Northern Research Institute, Yukon College, Whitehorse, Canada, 2009). It was the largest delegation at the conference from Europe. This was the first time when representatives of APECS Russia arrived at the conference as a motivated team and actively participated in all APECS activities at the Conference.
APECS Russia national activitiesAt the national level APECS Russia wants to have cooperation with PYRN-Russia. Autumn 2009 at the 1st PYRN-Russia Workshop (Institute of Physicochemical and Biological Problems of Soil Science at RAS, Puschchino, Russia, 2009) Ivan Sudakov organized a APECS panel. At the roundtable "'From frozen to thawing" It was raised the question of coordination between APECS Russia and PYRN-Russia. Some participants expressed the idea of a merger. This can increase the activity of young polar researchers in Russia, because PYRN-Russia has the organizational structure and official representatives in different Russian regions. Alexey Pavlov organized a APECS presentation at the OSL AARI meeting. The Otto Schmidt Laboratory for Polar and Marine Research (OSL) is a longtime APECS Russia partner. With the support of the OSL was organized IMPETUS 2007, 2008. These events are always popular among the APECS members. High level of IMPETUS organization allows for greater cooperation between Russian and foreign young scientists. We plan that the IMPETUS 2010 will be organize with the active support of APECS-Russia.
Plans for the future Dubrava Kirievskaya plans to organize a series of APECS panels at some polar conferences in St. Petersburg during the spring of 2010. This will attract new young researchers to work in APECS Russia. In addition, we plan to organize a APECS Russia meeting at the IPY Oslo Conference and and discuss the future of APECS in Russia
Provisional National Committee 1. Dubrava Kirievskaya (St.Petersburg State University) 2. Alexey Pavlov (Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute) 3. Ivan Sudakov (Nansen International Environmental and Remote Sensing Center)
