Toolik Field Station (TFS) is a research station operated and managed by the Institute of Arctic Biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). TFS provides logistical, operational, and scientific support to visiting scientists conducting Arctic research. Located 370 miles north of Fairbanks, Alaska and about two degrees north of the arctic circle. The field station population ebbs and flows throughout the year with a minimum population of 4 in the winter and up to 150 in the summer.

TFS is seeking an enthusiastic full-time person to further develop our communications and outreach initiatives, and to serve as our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity (DEI) coordinator. This position will be based out of Fairbanks at UAF, with occasional trips to the field station. The Communication and DEI Manager will serve as lead for developing and implementing our communications and outreach program to the scientific community and the general public. This person will also lead the development of the TFS Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity (DEI) program for our staff and visiting scientists, and will serve as the primary liaison between TFS and the UAF Office of Equity and Compliance. We have some policies and trainings relating to DEI at TFS in place already, but this is an area that we are seeking to expand.

We are looking for someone who has scientific training at a graduate level, experience with science communication to a variety of stakeholders, strong critical thinking and problem solving skills, experience and/or interest in working on DEI issues in higher education, and experience coordinating events and providing logistic support.
