MS position to study alpine hydrochemistry

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will study hydrochemistry of alpine headwaters in the Pacific Northwest. The position will come with at least two academic years of support within the Department of Environmental Sciences at Western Washington University. The research project will involve local fieldwork at Mt. Baker and the North Cascade Mountains, computer-based work in R, as well as analytical laboratory work for biogeochemical analysis.

Benefits: 12-month Academic Year Stipend, Full Tuition Payment, and Health Coverage.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to conduct fieldwork
  • Wet laboratory experience
  • Basic experience with R (or similar experience and strong desire to learn R)
  • Strong interest and/or experience in the cryosphere
  • Meet academic admission requirements of the MS, Environmental Sciences department:

Preferred Qualifications

  • Field experience in alpine or polar environments
  • Research experience in an academic or professional setting
  • Strong writing and organizational skills
  • Advanced experience with R
  • Experience with ArcGIS or similar
  • Teaching/mentoring experience in an academic or experiential setting
