Funded Ph.D. in Geological Sciences - Glacial geomorphology and modeling
Universidad de Concepción
- Graduate Position
We have an open call for prospective Ph.D. students interested in joining our team at the Universidad de Concepción, Chile (www.mgsg.udec.cl, to be updated shortly). Our group has a mixture of students and postdocs from different disciplines: Geography, Geodesy, Geology, Geophysics, and Engineering, among others. Funded by two projects, we can provide tuition and a two-year stipend to work on glacial geomorphology mapping and modeling along the "volcanic" southern Andes (~37ºS-40ºS). The interested student will be ascribed to the Geological Sciences program. More details on the Ph.D. program are here: https://geologia.udec.cl/postgrado/. Although the main teaching language of the program is Spanish, the program is flexible and can accommodate the needs of students who do not speak Spanish fluently (although English is mandatory if you do not speak Spanish). A general description of the Ph.D. project is in the first page of this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mPFmyYQIPfff6WKmvUin33DR7YZcU0qa/view.
The monthly stipend amount is dictated by our Science Council rules, the same that is paid to Ph.D. students under the National fellowship scheme, about 2.5 times the minimum wage in Chile (https://s3.amazonaws.com/documentos.anid.cl/BecasChile/2023/DoctoradoNacional/Bases_Doctorado_Nacional_08112022_LA.pdf page 8, consider 1 USD ~ 900 Chilean peso). Also, for people interested, that National Ph.D. fellowship scheme is open for anyone in the world, and closes its call mid December. If someone wants to apply to that, please do not hesitate in getting in touch.
