The optics group at University of Bergen (Department of Physics and Technology) has an open position for a PhD research fellow in Marine Optics (fully-funded). The position is connected to improving ocean colour remote sensing observations of chlorophyll and suspended matter concentrations in coastal waters in Svalbard and mainland Norway. This is done by utilising optical measurements and numerical modelling of light transport in the ocean and atmosphere. The position is by nature interdisciplinary, so in addition to candidates with a traditional physics background, we also welcome skilled and adaptable candidates from adjacent fields to apply (e.g. oceanography and marine ecology/phytoplankton), especially with relevant background from fieldwork.
