Russian State Museum of Arctic and Antarctic
The Museum of the Arctic opened the doors for visitors on the 8th of January, 1937, but the decision to establish it, was reached much earlier. Already in the 1920s owing to the dynamic exploration of the Arctic many prominent polar explorers and scientists advocated the idea to establish a polar museum that would function on permanent basis. In 1930 Presidium of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR approved the decision to establish the All-Union Arctic Institute (VAI) that would include a museum of the Arctic as a special department.
