SUMMARY:Landscapes Live Thursday 18th March: Roman DiBiase
LOCATION:Online
DESCRIPTION:We are very pleased to announce our next “Landscapes Live” online seminar o
f 2021 by Roman DiBiase (Penn State University) that will occur this week o
 n Thursday 18th March at 7 am PST / 10 am EST / 3 pm GMT / 4 pm CET on:\n“M
orphodynamics of mixed soil-mantled and bare bedrock hillslopes”\nTo regist
 er: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcodO-spzMqH9NvjUM9oPstn4nPRc
5avxDs\nAbstract: Mountainous landscapes often consist of a mix of soil-man
tled and bare-bedrock hillslopes that can be patchy in both space and time,
with consequences for chemical weathering, sediment delivery to river netw
orks, and hazards. Existing models developed for soil-mantled landscapes ar
e poorly suited to explain the transition to bedrock hillslopes that emerge
 s due to either short-term (e.g. wildfire) or long-term (e.g., tectonic) dr
ivers of imbalance between soil production and erosion. In this talk, I wil
l present a framework for the morphodynamics of hillslopes that are a patch
work of soil cover and bare bedrock, and discuss implications for lithologi
c controls on landscape evolution and the prediction of post-wildfire debri
s flows in steep landscapes.\nThis seminar will be live on Zoom and open to
anyone interested (with a limit of 300 participants). After registering, y
ou should receive a confirmation email containing information about joining
the meeting. We will also post the Zoom link for this meeting on the semin
 ar website: <a href="https://osur.univ-rennes1.fr/LandscapesLive/." target=
 "_blank" rel="noopener">https://osur.univ-rennes1.fr/LandscapesLive/.</a>\n
The Landscapes Live online seminar series will then continue the following
week with:\nThursday 25th March at 3 pm GMT/ 4 pm CET: Simon Mudd, Universi
ty of Edinburgh\nPrevious talks are available on the website (https://osur.
univ-rennes1.fr/LandscapesLive/). We are already planning a second seminar
series this spring. Feel free to contact us if you have questions or sugges
