SUMMARY:Palsea-Serce meeting 2021: hybrid in-person (New York) and online
LOCATION:Hybrid
DESCRIPTION:<p style="text-align: justify;">We’re happy to announce this year’s joint<s
 trong> PALSEA-SERCE</strong> meeting scheduled for <strong>September 13-15,
2021</strong>, which will be an online and in-person hybrid meeting: parti
cipants can attend via Zoom or in-person at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observator
y (New York). The meeting serves to bring the paleo sea-level community tog
ether with a particular focus on better understanding the physical processe
s that drive ice sheet collapse and solid earth deformation.&nbsp;<br /><br
/>We are attempting a hybrid format since vaccinations are progressing qui
ckly in some parts of the world; however, we also plan to keep the meeting
fully open and engaging for participants who wish/need to join us remotely
(which includes some of the organizing committee). Since regulations are ev
er changing we will stay flexible and update participants about event chang
es as soon as they occur.<br /><br />For the meeting we seek contributions
related to solid Earth deformation and ice sheet changes in the geologic pa
st. We are particularly interested in abstracts related to better understan
ding the time- and space- varying rheological nature of the mantle, which m
ight come from GIA, mineral physics, geodesy, or geodynamics, as well as co
ntributions related to past ice sheet behaviour and terrestrial water stora
ge, which might come from ice sheet modeling, glaciology, or hydrology.<br
/><br />The meeting will consist of oral and poster presentations. Addition
ally, we will dedicate time to discussing benchmarking and intercomparison
efforts in the GIA community as well as best practices for code and model o
utput sharing.&nbsp;<br /><br />For more information on the meeting (includ
ing our invited speakers), please visit: <a href="https://palseagroup.weebl

agenda will be announced on August 1st to allow sufficient time to arrange
travel for those who plan to do so. Please also register if you only plan t
o attend the virtual meeting (whether you plan to present or not). We are s
till finalizing the registration fee but it will likely be on the order of
$50 (to cover food and some transportation) and will only apply to in-perso
n participants. More information to follow.<br /><br />We particularly enco
urage participation of early career researchers (ECR) and researchers who j
oin us from developing countries (DC). ECR and DC researchers who join us i
n person and submit an abstract will be considered for financial support to
contribute to expenses related to travel, accommodation, and registration.
&nbsp;<br /><br />We’re looking forward to welcoming many of you this fall,
whether it is in person or remotely! Don’t hesitate to get in touch with u
 s should you have any questions or concerns.&nbsp;<br /><br />Best,<br />Ja
