SUMMARY:Palsea-Serce meeting 2021: hybrid in-person (New York) and online
LOCATION:Hybrid
DESCRIPTION:We’re happy to announce this year’s joint PALSEA-SERCE meeting scheduled fo
r September 13-15, 2021, which will be an online and in-person hybrid meeti
ng: participants can attend via Zoom or in-person at Lamont-Doherty Earth O
bservatory (New York). The meeting serves to bring the paleo sea-level comm
unity together with a particular focus on better understanding the physical
processes that drive ice sheet collapse and solid earth deformation. \n\nW
e are attempting a hybrid format since vaccinations are progressing quickly
in some parts of the world; however, we also plan to keep the meeting full
y open and engaging for participants who wish/need to join us remotely (whi
ch includes some of the organizing committee). Since regulations are ever c
hanging we will stay flexible and update participants about event changes a
s soon as they occur.\n\nFor the meeting we seek contributions related to s
olid Earth deformation and ice sheet changes in the geologic past. We are p
articularly interested in abstracts related to better understanding the tim
e- and space- varying rheological nature of the mantle, which might come fr
om GIA, mineral physics, geodesy, or geodynamics, as well as contributions
related to past ice sheet behaviour and terrestrial water storage, which mi
ght come from ice sheet modeling, glaciology, or hydrology.\n\nThe meeting
will consist of oral and poster presentations. Additionally, we will dedica
te time to discussing benchmarking and intercomparison efforts in the GIA c
ommunity as well as best practices for code and model output sharing. \n\nF
or more information on the meeting (including our invited speakers), please
  visit: https://palseagroup.weebly.com/2021-meeting.html\nRegistration and
abstract submission for this meeting are now open and will close July 15th:

st 1st to allow sufficient time to arrange travel for those who plan to do
so. Please also register if you only plan to attend the virtual meeting (wh
ether you plan to present or not). We are still finalizing the registration
fee but it will likely be on the order of $50 (to cover food and some tran
sportation) and will only apply to in-person participants. More information
to follow.\n\nWe particularly encourage participation of early career rese
archers (ECR) and researchers who join us from developing countries (DC). E
CR and DC researchers who join us in person and submit an abstract will be
considered for financial support to contribute to expenses related to trave
l, accommodation, and registration. \n\nWe’re looking forward to welcoming
many of you this fall, whether it is in person or remotely! Don’t hesitate
to get in touch with us should you have any questions or concerns. \n\nBest
