SUMMARY:AAG 2022: Polar Geography Sessions - Call for papers (18 October)
LOCATION:NYC and Online
DESCRIPTION:<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>CfP AAG 2022: Polar Geography Sessi
 ons</strong></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>NYC &amp; online (2
 5 February - 1 March 2022)</strong></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><str
ong>Northern geographies: Arctic, high-latitude, and cold region research a
nd engagements<br /><br /></strong>The Polar Geography Specialty Group seek
s papers from human and physical geographers examining Arctic, high-latitud
e, and cold regions in order to reckon with the rapid and dramatic socioeco
nomic, geophysical, and environmental changes that the region is experienci
ng. We welcome scholars employing qualitative and/or quantitative methods,
such as ethnography, geovisualization, discourse analysis, and remote sensi
ng. We also seek papers across a range of scales, from specific case studie
s to more pan-regional approaches, and a range of temporalities, too. Sessi
ons will seek to synthesize research on historical processes in the Arctic
and sub-Arctic to present dynamics in order to support efforts to project f
uture change. These sessions will speak to two of AAG 2022's themes, "The C
hanging North American Continent" and "Climate Justice."</p><p style="text-
align: justify;">Across these sessions, we hope to encourage discussion and
debate about how to work towards more just and sustainable northern commun
ities from the local to international scale. We also aim to stimulate conve
rsations about how to pursue more inclusive research designed and carried o
ut in partnership with rightsholders and stakeholders in a manner that brid
ges Indigenous and Western ontologies and methodologies.</p><p style="text-
