SUMMARY:Call for Arctic Research Seminar Registration: Community Science for Informed Response at the Arctic Invasion Front
LOCATION:Online
DESCRIPTION:
Call for Registration
Arctic Research Seminar Series</stro
ng>
Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS)

The Arctic R
esearch Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS) invites registration for the next Ar
ctic Research Seminar featuring Tobias (Toby) Schwoerer (International Arct
ic Research Center, University of Alaska Fairbanks). Dr. Schwoerer's presen
tation, titled Batten Down the Hatches: Community Science for Informed
Response at the Arctic Invasion Front, will be held via Zoom on Wednes
day, 11 May 2022 at 9:00 a.m. AKDT (1:00 p.m. EDT).

Seminar A
bstract:

The Arctic is undergoing large-scale accelerating c
hanges including the introduction and expansion of invasive species. We are
in a unique position to prevent new introductions and spread of existing i
nvaders by adopting policies and actions aimed at prevention, early detecti
on, and rapid response to minimize impacts on ecosystems, communities, food
security, and northern economies. But resource managers often face decisio
ns without having adequate data and resources at hand. Community science pr
esents one way to fill knowledge gaps and inform decisions. This presentati
on will showcase examples related to freshwater aquatic invasive species ma
nagement in Alaska aimed at understanding the long-distance pathways, human
-induced spread, and informing agency prioritization with applied economics
. Implications for Arctic conservation policy and future research needs wil
l be discussed.

<a href="https://www.arcus.org/civicrm/mailing/ur
