SUMMARY:APECS Science Communication Webinar: Meeting your Outreach Goals with Strategic Science Communication
DESCRIPTION:Meeting your Outreach Goals with Strategic Science Communication\nwith Kris
tin Timm*\n*Kristin Timm is the Science Communications Lead at the Scenario
s Network for Alaska and Arctic Planning (SNAP) at the International Arctic
Research Center (IARC) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.\nApril 22\n1
 7:00 GMT\nRegister Here\nOrganizer | Bernabé Moreno\nDescription | George B
ernard Shaw once said that, “the single biggest problem with communication
is the illusion that it has taken place.” As science communicators, how can
we tell if we have effectively communicated or whether our communication e
fforts have met our intended goals? The strategic science communication pro
cess is a more deliberate approach to communicating science, and this webin
ar will discuss how to identify your communication goals and purpose, poten
tial audiences, available tools, and mechanisms for evaluation and assessme
nt. Rather than taking an ad hoc approach to communicating science (and hop
ing for an intended outcome), the strategic communication process begins by
reflecting on the value of the research and identifying who will be intere
sted in or impacted by the results. This webinar is ideal for early career
scientists who would like to see specific outcomes from their science commu
nication activities, are interested in taking their science communication s
kills to the next level, or who are working closely with and sharing resear
ch results with specific stakeholder groups\n
