Workshop courses will convene in the mor nings of 1-4 August 2017 at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York .\nThis workshop is open to polar scientists who would like to increase the ir computing knowledge and abilities and will include Software Carpentry mo dules on computing fundamentals, as well high performance computing (HPC) a nd reproducibility.\nTraining topics during the workshop include, but are n ot limited to, the basics of UNIX, version control, introduction to HPDC, s electing a HPDC approach and platform, and publishing and sharing code.\nTh e workshop is free to attend, but participants are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses.\nSpace is still available for one or two teams for the hackathon portion of this event that will take place in the afternoons following the workshop.\nThe hackathon is open to teams of t wo to four people.
