SUMMARY:Polar Prediction School 2018
LOCATION:Abisko\, Sweden
DESCRIPTION:The EU Horizon 2020-funded APPLICATE project, in cooperation with the World
Meteorological Organisation’s Polar Prediction Project (PPP) in occasion o
f the Year of Polar Prediction (YOPP), the Association of Polar Early Caree
r Scientists (APECS) and other partners will be organizing the Polar Predic
tion School 2018 on weather and climate prediction in the polar regions fro
 m 17 - 27 April 2018 at Abisko Scientific Research Station in Sweden.\nThe
course will include a combination of polar weather and climate theory lectu
res with exercises on modelling and field meteorology techniques as well as
soft skill training. Each of these components forms a crucial pillar of th
e prediction problem, and the motivation for combining these is to provide
participants with a complete overview of the components required to underst
and and predict polar weather.\nThe Polar Prediction School 2018 will be op
en for 30 early career researchers (focus on advanced graduate students, Ph
D students and postdoctoral researchers) from around the world. An internat
ional set up instructors will be teaching the sessions. The course will be
run at Abisko Scientific Research Station in Sweden where the instructional
facilities are conveniently located in an environment well suited to Arcti
c observations. Here participants can begin to develop a sense for the envi
ronment they are studying.\nFor more information on the program, please che
ck the draft agenda below. All information on this page will be updated as
the planning progresses, so keep checking back frequently. The Polar Predic
tion School 2018 is modelled after the Polar Prediction School 2016, a summ
ary of which you can read here.\nFor any questions about the Polar Predicti
