 S. (ARCUS) announces the next Arctic Research Seminar Series event featurin
 g Sandra Starkweather. The event will be held in the ARCUS D.C. office at 1
 201 New York Avenue, NW Washington D.C. on Friday, 21 July 2017 at 12:00-1:
 00 p.m. EDT.</p><p>This seminar will also be available as a webinar live-st
 ream for those unable to attend in person.</p><p>Registration is required f
 or this event.</p><p>The ARCUS Arctic Research Seminar Series brings some o
 f the leading Arctic researchers to Washington, D.C. to share the latest fi
 ndings and what they mean for decision-making. These seminars will be of in
 terest to federal agency officials, congressional staff, non-governmental o
 rganizations, associations, and the public.</p><p>This seminar titled "The 
 U.S. Arctic Observing Network - Mobilizing Interagency Observing Actions in
  an Era of Rapid Change" will be presented by Sandra Starkweather and will 
 discuss the capabilities of the new Arctic Observing Network (U.S. AON) ini
 tiative and how they are being mobilized.</p><p>Sandra Starkweather is the 
 Executive Director for the U.S. Arctic Observing Network, a NOAA funded pos
 ition created to advance the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administratio
 n (NOAA) and U.S. agency participation in partnered Arctic observing activi
 ties and work towards a framework concept for an interagency U.S. AON. Star
 kweather has a joint background in engineering (energy systems, renewables,
  conservation), earth science (Arctic climatology), and science policy. She
  has experience in consulting engineering, university research, project man
 agement, and planning. She has spent twelve years traveling to and from Gre
 enland to participate in or support Arctic field research. Sandy has combin
 ed her experiences to advance coordination among independently funded, flag
 ship Arctic observatories for the International Arctic Systems for Observin
 g the Atmosphere (<a href="https://www.arcus.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/
 extern/url.php?u=3310&amp;qid=150894">IASOA</a>) consortium and to advance 
 the implementation of the U.S. Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee
 's (IARPC) Five Year Plan for Arctic Research. She maintains a strong inter
 est in improving the effectiveness of the Arctic research enterprise, parti
 cularly in situ observational research, through building stronger collabora
 tions among all parties who benefit from sustained Arctic observing.</p><p>
 This event is a brown-bag lunch that will be held in the ARCUS D.C. office 
 (1201 New York Avenue, NW Washington D.C. Fourth Floor). Cookies and bevera
