SUMMARY:2016 Connaught Summer Institute in Arctic Science: Atmosphere, Cryosphere, and Climate
LOCATION:Alliston\, Ontario\, Canada
DESCRIPTION:
Organizers invite graduate and post graduate students who are interested
in Arctic Science to apply for the 2016 Connaught Summer Institute in Arct
ic Science: Atmosphere, Cryosphere, and Climate which will take place from
18-22 July in Alliston, Ontario, Canada.

The Connaught Summer Institu
te in Arctic Science: Atmosphere, Cryosphere, and Climate brings together s
tudents and established scholars who are engaged in Arctic research, to pro
vide an understanding of the Arctic climate and the processes that control
it, and to establish an interdisciplinary forum in which they can discuss c
urrent challenges and identify emerging research opportunities in this area
.

Organizers are pleased to invite applications for the second Connau
ght Summer Institute, offered from 18-22 July 2016 in Alliston, Ontario, Ca
nada. It is intended for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows engaged
in Arctic research. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from expe
rienced researchers in a small and comfortable setting. Students will also
participate in professional development activities, engage in a diverse car
eer panel discussion, develop strategies for linking scientific knowledge t
o public engagement, education and outreach, and present their own research
 during a poster session.

Topics to be covered include Arctic paleocl
imatology, the Arctic climate system, climate modelling, causes of changes
in Arctic sea ice, high-latitude snow processes, Arctic aerosols, compositi
on-climate interactions, tropospheric halogen chemistry in the Arctic, stra
tospheric ozone and chlorine chemistry, the carbon cycle, aerosols and clim
ate, atmospheric measurement techniques, Arctic archeology, Inuit heritage,
 and science communications.

Admission to the Summer Institute includ
es all on-site food and accommodation. A chartered bus will be available to
take attendees to and from downtown Toronto, however, attendees are respon
sible for travel between their home institution and Toronto or Alliston.

The Summer Institute is supported by the University of Toronto's Connau
ght Fund and builds on the Summer School program developed by the NSERC CRE
ATE Training Program in Arctic Atmospheric Science (CREATE-AAS). It is affi
liated with three NSERC-funded networks: Probing the Atmosphere of the High
Arctic (PAHA), the Network on Climate and Aerosols (NETCARE), and the Cana
dian Sea Ice and Snow Evolution (CanSISE) Network. The Summer Institute spa
ns the disciplines of physics, chemistry, earth sciences, geography, enviro
nmental science, and related areas, and encompasses the use of experimental
, field observation, and modelling methodologies to study the Arctic region
.

To apply, fill out the application form
(http://www.candac.ca/
