Organizers announce the 2018 Arctic Observing Summit (AOS) to be held 24-26 June 2018, immediately following POLA R 2018, in Davos, Switzerland.
The theme of this mee ting is The Business Case for a pan-Arctic Observing System and will focus on the sub-themes of The Need for the Observing System, Implementing and Op timizing a Pan-Arctic Observing System, and Operating Observing Systems and Networks.
The AOS is a high-level biennial summit that aims to provi de community-driven guidance for the design, implementation, coordination a nd sustained operation of an international network of Arctic observing syst ems. The AOS provides a platform to address urgent and broadly recognized n eeds of Arctic observing across all components of the Arctic system. It fos ters international communication on and coordination of long-term observati ons aimed at improving understanding of and response and adaptation to syst em-scale Arctic change. It is an international forum for optimizing resourc e allocation through coordination of and exchange among researchers, Indige nous organizations, the public, private and not-for profit sectors and all others involved or interested in the Arctic. The AOS is a contribution to t he Sustaining Arctic Observing Networks (SAON) initiative.
This is th e 4th Summit since inception in 2013. The AOS brings together a diverse com munity to continue to progress on the development, implementation and susta ined support of a multi-purpose Arctic Observing System of Systems.
