SUMMARY:Workshop on Cryospheric Extremes
LOCATION:Helsinki\, Finland
DESCRIPTION:Workshop on Cryospheric Extremes, Helsinki, Finland, 25 - 27 April, 2018\nE
xtreme weather events are commonly encompassed phenomena such as heat waves
, droughts, floods and storms. In cold regions, these are augmented with sn
ow and sea-ice related extreme events, usually triggered by anomalous atmos
pheric or oceanic conditions. Although extreme events are a core climate re
search focus, cryospheric extremes have not received much attention yet. Th
e overarching aim of the workshop is to review our understanding of cryosph
eric extreme events in the past, present and future, and to identify resear
ch needs.\nTopics of interest include\n\n - Observing cryospheric extremes
 (CE) and their precursors\n - Modelling requirements for CE\n - Producing a
nd verifying forecasts of CE\n - CE and climate change\n - Relevance of CE
for society/usersRegistration link\nThe workshop is free of charge for all
