SUMMARY:Webinar on Glaciology in the St. Elias Mountains of Yukon, Canada: science, logistics and surprises
LOCATION:Online
DESCRIPTION:Webinar title: Glaciology in the St. Elias Mountains of Yukon, Canada: scie
nce, logistics and surprises\nBy Dr. Gwenn Flowers, Simon Fraser University
, British Columbia, Canada\nSummary: The St. Elias Mountains of Yukon, Cana
da, are home to vast icefields, surging glaciers and some of the highest pe
aks in North America. Since 2006, Gwenn and her research group at Simon Fra
ser University have been carrying out glaciological field work in this area
to investigate surface mass and energy balance, glacier response to climat
e, glacier thermal structure, ice dynamics and outburst floods. This webina
r will highlight some of the research results, illustrate the role of fundi
ng and logistics in defining the research, and touch on the opportunities a
nd challenges associated with field-based studies in this relatively remote
area.\nPlease register for Glaciology in the St. Elias Mountains of Yukon,
Canada: science, logistics and surprises on Wednesday April 11th, 2018 at
