SUMMARY:SCAR webinar: seeking your input on international collaboration in Antarctic and Southern Ocean Research
LOCATION:Online
DESCRIPTION:<p style="text-align: justify;">The Scientific Committee for Antarctic Rese
arch (SCAR) is an international, interdisciplinary body that brings togethe
r scientists from around the world for information sharing and research col
 laboration [details here: <a href="https://www.scar.org/about-us/scar-overv
 iew/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://www.scar.org/about-us/scar-ove
rview/</a>]. A key mechanism of SCAR’s work is the suite of “Scientific Res
earch Programs” that are established for fixed periods of time (typically 6
-8 years) to catalyze and organize collaborations around particular topics
deemed of critical importance by the scientific community. [See the current
  list of SRPs here: <a href="https://www.scar.org/science/srp/" target="_bl
ank" rel="noopener">https://www.scar.org/science/srp/ </a>]. The current su
ite of Programs are nearing the end of their designated lifetimes, and a ne
xt generation of Programs are now being explored. These will be actively di
scussed at the 2018 SCAR meetings (<a href="https://www.polar2018.org/" tar
 get="_blank" rel="noopener">https://www.polar2018.org/</a> ), and final cho
ices will be voted on at the 2020 SCAR meetings. Right now is a key window
for helping to shape and steer these choices, and your input to this proces
 s is most welcome.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">On <strong>May 24th a
t 1:00-2:30 pm edt</strong>, we will hold webinar [hosted by some leading U
.S. representatives to SCAR: Terry Wilson, Deneb Karentz, David Bromwich] t
o discuss this program development opportunity and the ways that you can be
 st contribute to this process.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">You are e
ncouraged to join us for this discussion, and can register through followin
