 polar Council Alaska will host a joint seminar by Rosemary Ahtuangaruak and
  Theresa Arevgaq John as part of the 2018 Arctic Indigenous Scholars progra
 m. The event will be held in the ARCUS D.C. office at 1201 New York Avenue,
  NW Washington D.C. on Wednesday, 23 May 2018 from 12:00-1:30 p.m. ET.\nThi
 s seminar will be available as a webinar live-stream for those unable to at
 tend in person.\nRegistration is required for this event.\nTo register for

 onnections program creates a space for Indigenous scholars to educate and i
 nform policy- and decision-makers engaged in Arctic Issues while visiting W
 ashington, D.C. and provides a platform for traditional knowledge holders t
 o share their expertise with the wider Arctic research community.\nThis joi
 nt Arctic research seminar &amp; webinar will feature presentations by each
  of the 2018 Arctic Indigenous Scholars:\n\n - Rosemary Ahtuangaruak is an 
 Inupiaq activist. Rosemary is a graduate of the University of Washington Me
 dex Northwest Physician Assistant Program. She has fought tirelessly for th
 e health and protection of her people and of the Arctic’s unparalleled wild
 erness that has sustained her culture for thousands of years. Rosemary is a
  former mayor of Nuiqsut and currently serves on the board of the Inupiat C
 ommunity of the Arctic Slope, the regional tribal government for the North 
 Slope, and is an executive council member of the Alaska Inter–Tribal Counci
 l. She received the 2009 Voice of the Wild Award from the Alaska Wilderness
  League and is a founding board member of REDOIL (Resisting Environmental D
 estruction on Indigenous Lands).\n - Theresa Arevgaq John is an Associate P
 rofessor in the Department of Cross-cultural Studies at the University of A
 laska Fairbanks. Theresa has authored numerous academic articles and a co-a
 uthor of a book, Yupiit Yuraryarait: Yup’ik Ways of Dancing, and has presen
 ted her work at dozens of local, national, and international professional c
 onferences. She currently serves on the National Advisory Council on Indian
  Education and the International Indigenous Women’s Forum, and is a former 
 member of the Alaskan State Council Arts and the former Chair of the Tradit
 ional Native Arts Panel. She is also the recipient of the Governor's Distin
 guished Humanities Educator Award and Alaska State Library Award. Theresa r
 eceived her B.S., M.Ed., and Ph.D. from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
 \nThis 1.5 hour event is a brown-bag lunch that will be held in the ARCUS D
