SUMMARY:German-Russian Summer School
LOCATION:Potsdam\, Germany
DESCRIPTION:German-Russian Summer School: New Monitoring Technologies for environmental
  research and their application\nAugust 26 until 31, 2018\nPotsdam, Germany
\nOrganizing institutions\nThe summer school will be organized by the Helmh
oltz Centre Potsdam GFZ German Research, Centre for Geosciencs and the Russ
ian V.I. Vernadsky and Nongovernemental Ecological Foundation.\nBackground\
nGlobal change has triggered a number of environmental changes, such as alt
erations in climate, land productivity, water resources, atmospheric chemis
try, and ecological systems. Finding solutions to the impact of global\ncha
nge is one of the most important challenges of the 21st century.\nThe obser
vatory TERENO (TERrestrial ENvironmental Observatories) is embarking on new
paths with an interdisciplinary and long-term research programme. TERENO s
pans an Earth observation network across Germany that extends from the Nort
h German lowlands to the Bavarian Alps. This unique large-scale project aim
s to catalogue the long-term ecological, social and economic impact of glob
al change at regional level.\nIn Germany the northeastern lowlands are one
of the regions most affected by climate change. The regional TERENO observa
tory „Northeastern German Lowland“ operated by the GFZ, analyses the impact
of climate and land-use change on terrestrial ecosystems and serves as a p
latform for the monitoring, analysis and prediction of changing environment
al conditions.\nApplication deadline: 1 July 2018\nFor more information, pl
