 r /><br />This year GCOS organizes its annual Steering Committee meeting fr
 om 23 to 26 October, 2018 in Helsinki, FINLAND. In conjunction with the GCO
 S Steering Committee Meeting, there will be a GCOS Science Day on Monday, 2
 2 October 2018, at the premises of the Finnish Meteorological Institute.<br
  /><br />The Science Day aims at informing the regional and national commun
 ity on activities related to systematic climate observations and their rele
 vance to pressing environmental concerns.<br />In the past years, the Scien
 ce Day had convened climate scientists and observation experts from South A
 frica, South America and China, and facilitated valuable exchange of news a
 nd views.<br />In 2018, the Finnish and regional community is invited to pr
 esent local actions with regard to climate observations, science and adapta
 tion in the Arctic region. <br /><br /><strong>The GCOS Science Day will co
 nsist of 4 sessions:<br /></strong><br />1-GCOS activities in global and re
 gional context<br />2-Arctic now and tomorrow<br />3-Science-based informat
 ion for decision makers<br />4-Climate change and observing initiatives<br
