SUMMARY:Aquatic Sciences Meeting
LOCATION:San Juan\, Puerto Rico
DESCRIPTION:Organizers invite session abstracts for the Association for the Sciences of
Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) 2019 Aquatic Sciences Meeting. This meet
ing will convene 23 February – 2 March 2019 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.\nASLO
is offering two sessions that will highlight Arctic research. These sessio
ns include SS16: Changing Biogeochemistry and Ecology across Arctic Aquatic
Systems in the 21st Century and CS36: Arctic Ecosystems.\nSession SS16: Ch
anging Biogeochemistry and Ecology across Arctic Aquatic Systems in the 21s
t Century, will emphasize changes in the biogeochemistry and ecology of Arc
tic waters. Potential topic areas for this session may include nutrient, ca
rbon, and toxin dynamics, including the release, transport, and transformat
ion of biogeochemical constituents across the Arctic aquatic continuum, cha
nging food web dynamics, and ecosystem function, as well as changing physic
al processes related to altered temperature and ice cover regimes. Studies
across gradients and land-water interfaces are encouraged. Reviews, seconda
ry analyses, and meta-analyses taking a comparative approach across Arctic
systems are also welcome.\nSession CS36: Arctic Ecosystems will provide a p
latform for sharing results from a wider range of physical, chemical, and b
iological studies of aquatic systems at high northern latitudes.\nThese ses
sions are being jointly organized and chaired to create a diverse lineup of
presentations from the Arctic research community, and will form the seed o
f a 2021 special Arctic-oriented issue in Limnology & Oceanography.\nAb
stract submission deadline: 22 October 2018\nFor session descriptions, go t
