 inary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC)</a>, wi
 ll be the first year-around expedition exploring the coupled Arctic climate
  system. It has been designed by an international consortium of leading pol
 ar research institutions under the umbrella of the <a href="https://iasc.in
 fo/">International Arctic Science Committee (IASC)</a>, led by the <a href=
 "https://www.awi.de/">Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar 
 and Marine Research (AWI)</a>, <a href="http://www.aari.ru/main.php?lg=1">A
 rctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI)</a> and the <a href="https://
 cires.colorado.edu/">University of Colorado, Cooperative Institute for Rese
 arch in Environmental Sciences (CIRES)</a>.</p><p><img style="margin: 6px;

  width="363" height="271" /></p><p>Research Vessel (RV) Polarstern will spe
 nd 350 days (September 2019 until September 2020) frozen into the drifting 
 Arctic sea ice. 300 scientists will investigate the Arctic climate processe
 s that couple the atmosphere, ocean, sea ice, bio-geochemistry and ecosyste
 m.&nbsp;The results of MOSAiC will enhance the understanding of the regiona
 l and global consequences of Arctic climate change and sea-ice loss, and im
 prove weather and climate predictions.</p><p>During the first leg of the ex
 pedition, the MOSAiC partners and the <a href="https://www.apecs.is/">Assoc
 iation of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) </a>work together to offer 
 the <strong>MOSAiC School 2019</strong> <strong>on board</strong>&nbsp;of t
 he support icebreaker <strong>RV Akademik Fedorov</strong>.</p><p><em><span
  style="text-decoration: underline;">Duration of the MOSAiC School 2019:</s
 pan>&nbsp;</em> <strong>15 September - 26 October 2019</strong> (plus / min
 us a few days (as logistical or weather conditions may require changes of t

 ng>no registration fee</strong> for the MOSAiC School 2019. The <strong>onl
 y costs participants will have to cover themselves are the costs of their t
 ravel to and from Tromsø, Norway</strong>. Should travel support become ava
 ilable, the MOSAiC School organizers will contact the selected participants
 . However, travel&nbsp;support cannot be guaranteed at this point.</p><p>Th
 e <strong>MOSAiC School 2019</strong> will be open to <span style="text-dec
 oration: underline;"><strong>up to&nbsp;</strong><strong>20 early career re
 searchers</strong></span> (<strong>advanced graduate students and PhD stude
 nts</strong> with no to limited experience with ship-based research).</p><p
 >International experts that are part of the expedition will share knowledge
  with the students, engage in discussions and hands-on experiences in groun
 dbreaking research, and thus help to educate future Arctic climate experts.
  In addition, the participants will help the MOSAiC Teams on site to set up
  their instruments and experiments.</p><p>After the end of the MOSAiC Schoo
