SUMMARY:14th Workshop on Antarctic Meteorology and Climate (WAMC) & YOPP-SH Meeting
LOCATION:Charleston SC\, USA
DESCRIPTION:<p></p><p><strong><strong>Workshop on Antarctic Meteorology and Climate</st
rong>&nbsp;(WAMC)</strong></p><p>This workshop is organized annually by mem
bers of the WAMC Planning Committee across the globe. The WAMC brings toget
her those with research and operational/logistical interests in Antarctic m
eteorology and forecasting and related disciplines. As in the past, the ann
ual activities and status of the Antarctic Meteorological Research Center (
AMRC), Automatic Weather Station (AWS), and Antarctic Mesoscale Prediction
System (AMPS) efforts will be addressed, and feedback and results from thei
r user communities will be solicited. More broadly, this workshop also is a
forum for current results and ideas in Antarctic meteorology, numerical we
ather prediction, and weather forecasting, from contributors around the wor
ld. There will be discussions on the relationships among international effo
rts and Antarctic forecasting, logistical support, and science. We welcome
papers on these topics.</p><p><strong>SCAR Operational Meteorology in the A
ntarctic (OpMet)</strong></p><p>The SCAR Op Met Expert Group will be holdin
g a meeting during the WAMC, with the time to be determined. If you are not
in the OpMet Expert Group and are interested in learning more about this,
please inquire at the workshop.&nbsp;</p><p><strong><strong>Year of Polar P
rediction in the Southern Hemisphere (</strong>YOPP-SH)</strong></p><p>For
the fourth YOPP-SH meeting in Charleston, project investigators and represe
ntatives of national agencies active in Antarctica are invited to provide u
pdates on their activities during the YOPP Special Observing Period (SOP) i
 n the Southern Hemisphere, November 16, 2018-February 15, 2019. To make mos
t effective use in data denial experiments of all the additional radiosonde
observations collected during the SOP, we want to assemble complete radios
onde data sets from all operators. We will likely want to assemble all surf
ace observations as well. A key question to be decided by the meeting is wh
ether to hold a winter SOP in the April-June time period in either 2020 or
2021.&nbsp;</p><p>We invite you to explore this website, and feel free to&n
