SUMMARY:Arctic Field Summer School 2019: Norway-Canada-USA Collaboration
LOCATION:Whitehorse\, Yukon\, Canada
DESCRIPTION:The field school is a part of the International Partnerships for Excellence
in Education and Research (INTPART) project, Arctic Field Summer Schools:
Norway-Canada-USA Collaboration. \nThrough a series of summer schools, this
project engages graduate students in exploring science questions related t
o understanding the cryosphere, cryosphere change, and impacts of change on
people and ecosystems. Students are exposed to the use of data derived fro
m remote sensing platforms, as well as airborne and ground-based sensors an
d methods.\nSpecific objectives of the summer schools include introduction
to and application of cutting-edge approaches and methods in interdisciplin
ary remote sensing and field-based research. In previous years, the field s
chools have focused on sea ice, lake ice, and snow in the Svalbard area and
from NW Alaska. This year the field school will occur at the  in southwest
Yukon, Canada. Efforts will be directed toward field methods and analysis
of data on glaciers and permafrost, and a synthesis of information from pri
or schools to produce a state of knowledge assessment on the impacts of cli
mate change on the cryosphere, ecosystems, and the people in these areas. T
he field school will advance the current state of knowledge and identify em
erging issues in cryosphere research, with a focus on user needs for cryosp
heric data and information.\nThis opportunity is open to U.S.-based graduat
e students enrolled at U.S. universities. The international partners will a
 dvertise separately.\nApplication deadline: 10 April 2019\n \n
