 the annual winter course provides its participants with knowledge, skills a
 nd experience in sea ice science, definition of ice physical-mechanical pro
 perties, and use of modern research equipment on the real ice cover and in 
 the ice laboratory.\nThe course introduces the problems of ice mechanics to
  the students and provides the experience of operating research equipment i
 n the laboratory and in field conditions. The course includes lectures on b
 asic concepts of ice mechanics and ice interactions with offshore structure
 s and ships, lectures about standards of Russia for the calculation of ice 
 loads on offshore structures, laboratory and field activities in the Labora
 tory of Ice Research (FEFU) and in the bay near FEFU campus. Prior to the f
 ield activities, special lectures introduce the equipment (used for the mea
 surements of characteristics and strength of sea ice, ice hardness measurem
 ents by drop ball technique, etc.) to the students.\nLanguage: English\nDur
