SUMMARY:Arctic Science Summit Week 2021
LOCATION:Lisbon\, Portugal
DESCRIPTION:Framed by the overarching theme “The Arctic: Regional Changes, Global Impac
ts”, Lisbon invites international experts on the Arctic and Indigenous Peop
les to discuss the “New Arctic” and also its impacts and interactions to an
d with the lower latitudes.\nThe Arctic Science Summit Week 2021 (https://a
ssw2021.pt/) will bring together scientists, Indigenous people, Arctic comm
unity members, and Arctic science stakeholders from all over the world to p
resent and discuss the most recent advances on Arctic knowledge across disc
iplines, from the natural sciences to the humanities. The conference will a
lso be an opportunity to foster research synergies between both Polar Regio
ns, with sessions that target both Poles welcomed.\nThe COVID-19 pandemic i
s intensifying as the autumn approaches in the Northern Hemisphere and the
number of confirmed cases has been increasing, particularly in western Euro
pe. It is unlikely that the pandemic situation will improve in the upcoming
months unless a vaccine or an effective treatment will be developed, which
might still take several months. This situation has direct consequences on
traveling and on conferences involving large number of participants like A
SSW2021.\nTherefore, the ASSW2021 Local Organizing Committee in coordinatio
n with IASC decided to move the Science Symposium part of ASSW2021 (23 – 26
March 2021) into an online event.\n\nASSW2021 Registration now open\nRegis
tration for ASSW2021 has now opened: <a href="https://assw2021.pt/#registra
