DESCRIPTION:<p>We are delighted to announce the return of the Polar Seminar series star
 ting next <strong>Thursday</strong> (4/16) at <strong>2:00 pm</strong>! Our
  speaker will be <strong>Dr. Richard Alley</strong>, the Evan Pugh Universi
 ty Professor of Geoscience at Penn State Univ. He will be presenting a talk
  entitled "<strong>Collapsing ice sheets and the climate conversation</stro
 ng>". The seminar will be held remotely through Zoom with a meeting link to
  be sent out.<br /><br />For over 40 years, Dr. Alley has studied ice sheet
 s to help predict future changes in climate and sea level. He has authored 
 or coauthored more than 300 refereed scientific papers and has been honored
  with election to the US National Academy of Sciences and Foreign Membershi
 p in the Royal Society. Dr. Alley has testified before Congress, participat
 ed in the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (co-recipient of the
  2007 Nobel Peace Prize), and has provided requested advice to numerous gov
 ernment officials in multiple administrations. He is also a renowned scienc
 e communicator, as the presenter for the PBS TV miniseries on climate and e
 nergy Earth: The Operators’ Manual, and author of the book.</p>
