SUMMARY:3rd Open Science Conference of the International Partnerships in Ice Core Sciences
LOCATION:Crans-Montana\, Switzerland
DESCRIPTION:3rd IPICS Open Science Conference in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, 10-15 Octo
ber 2021.\nIce cores provide information about past climate and environment
al conditions as well as direct records of the composition of the atmospher
e on timescales from decades to hundreds of millennia. With the pioneering
work of Hans Oeschger of University of Bern on carbon dioxide in polar ice
cores, a long tradition of ice core research in Switzerland began. Less kno
wn is that Hans Oeschger also initiated a high-alpine drilling project on C
olle Gnifetti in Switzerland in the 1970s. To acknowledge Hans Oeschger’s i
mportant contribution to these two ice core fields and to foster the link b
etween the corresponding communities the theme of the conference is Ice Cor
e Science at the three Poles.\nAbstract submission, registration, and trave
l support application will be open from January 1st, 2021, on. IPICS had to
be postponed and we strongly hope that we will all be able to meet in Octo
ber 2021 in Crans-Montana!\nSee further information on the conference websi
