Network (MiH-RCN), and The Arctic Institute invite applications for th
e Arctic Winter College.
The Arctic Winter College is a series of web-based seminars (webinars) that will take place on
Tuesdays, 18:00-20:00 Central European Time from 12 January to 23 M
arch 2021.

g diverse experts and hosted by MiH-RCN Principle Investigator Victoria Her
rmann, will focus on the theme “Arctic on the Move.” Urbanizatio
n, globalization, and the impacts of climate change are a
ctivating the simultaneous migrations of species, ecosystems, settlements,
and cultures across Arctic coastlines in new and unpredictable ways.
Arctic port cities are witnessing increased maritime traffic
and inflow of migrant labor; rural villages are facing displacement from sl
ow and sudden-onset disasters; sea ice melt and ocean warming are shifting
marine species ranges; and terrestrial ecosystems in transition are upendin
g Arctic food webs and introducing southern disease vectors. Each of these
intersecting mobilities challenge the quality of life, sustainable developm
ent, and environmental health of the circumpolar north.
Partic
ipation in the Arctic Winter College is open to applicants
with ideally one to ten years of experience in social sciences, engineerin
g, medicine, and natural sciences, young private sector professionals, Indi
genous Knowledge, Traditional Knowledge, and humanities scholars and cultur
al heritage practitioners with connections/relevance to the Arctic, includi
ng graduate students, and a desire to share perspectives and seek professio
nal collaboration with a network of peers. The course will be conducted in
English.
Applicant requirements include:
-Early- to mid-career professionals, including students, whose wor
k focuses on the Arctic;
-A commitment to participate, including writ
ten and oral contributions, in the Arctic Winter course each Tuesday from 1
8:00-20:00 Central European Time from 12 January to 23 March 2021;
-A
willingness to build an active, ongoing network beyond the conclusion of t
he course; and
English fluency.
