APECS is very pleased to announce our 2022 APECS International Mentorship Award recipients – Dr. Jonas Lembrechts and Prof. Kimberly Strong! The mentorship awards were established in 2016 as a meaningful way to recognize the efforts of mentors within the international polar science community, and to honour those who have devoted significant time and energy towards building a supportive community for early career professionals. Despite the initial efforts to grant a single award for 2021-2022, after reviewing the two equally extraordinary applications of Dr. Jonas Lembrechts and Prof. Kimberly Strong, we have decided to honour both of them. The two nominations have been accompanied by the impressive lists of accomplishments, but more importantly by the numerous references from their past and present mentees and collaborators, who praised their support, engagement and care of their mentees. With that in mind, the APECS wishes to express sincere gratitude to both Dr. Jonas Lembrechts and Prof. Kimberly Strong for their outstanding contributions to developing ECRs careers and hence strengthening our polar community of young researchers!
We would also like to thank all of those who nominated mentors, and to the APECS International Mentorship Award committee members who handled the nomination and award process.
