The 6th APECS International Online Conference will take place on 19-20th May 2020 and, once again, it's the time of the year that we ask for your support as volunteers! (Sign up here!)
Specifically, we need your help to act as Presentation Judges and Session Coordinators during the conference. No prior experience is required! We provide training for both roles (see below for more information). These are excellent opportunities to develop professional skills, support the APECS community, and gain experience that will boost your C.V.!
To volunteer, you must be able to attend at least one entire session. You are welcome to volunteer for more than one session. Attendees of the Online Conference are welcome to volunteer*. Volunteering will take approximately 4 hours of your time (~2-3 hours to attend a session, plus some training time).

The Conference includes five sessions, spread across time zones, with about 50 presentations total.
- Session 1: 0800-1045 GMT
- Session 2: 1130-1405 GMT
- Session 3: 1445-1700 GMT
- Session 4: 1745-2000 GMT
- Session 5: 2045-2300 GMT

Presentation Judge
Thanks to APECS and Antarctic Science Ltd., we will award prizes for the Best Presentation in four categories. The prize categories are: Antarctic, Arctic, Alpine, and Collaboration Across Knowledge Systems.
If you are an attentive listener, have an interest in expanding your knowledge of polar regions’ research, and can attend one full conference session, then this is a great opportunity to contribute to our community and to develop your professional skills. You do not need to be an expert in any particular field, each session features presentations from a range of disciplines.
In your role of judge, you will attend the live online session and you will grade each oral presentation to help us select the prize winners. A standardized grading rubric will be provided to ensure the judging process is fair and straightforward.
*Conference presenters are welcome to act as Judges, though you will not be assigned presentations within your own category (i.e. if you are presenting Antarctic research, you will not judge other Antarctic presentations).

Session Coordinator
In each session, a Session Coordinator will be present to support the session chair and help the sessions run smoothly. To volunteer for this role, you must be able to attend at least one full conference session. You will provide basic technical support, such as muting attendees, helping presenters share their screens, and monitoring the chat box for technical questions. You will also be responsible for time keeping and recording the session. You may remain silent and work behind the scene, but you are also welcome to ask questions of presenters if you wish to do so.
No previous experience is required, we will provide a training session to learn how to use the ZOOM webinar system. The training session will ensure you have all the skills you need to fulfil the role!
*Conference presenters are welcome to act as Session Coordinators, though you will not be assigned to your own presentation.
