The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) invites applications for the Early Career Faculty Innovator Program. The Early Career Faculty Innovator Program is a new funding opportunity for early career faculty in the social sciences and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields outside of NCAR's core expertise to co-develop interdisciplinary research projects in partnership with scientists and engineers at NCAR.

The Innovators Program aims to fund six faculty, and one graduate student for each faculty participant, for two years starting in the summer of 2019. Research themes that align with the National Science Foundation (NSF) and NCAR strategic priorities are selected for each two-year cohort.

The 2019-2020 research theme is Coastal Regions and Human Settlements. Prospective applicants are invited to submit a proposal for an interdisciplinary research project on coastal processes, the built environment, and the people that inhabit coastal regions. This theme is intended to be very broad and can be extended to include topics spanning weather to climate, terrestrial/atmospheric processes that influence coastal communities, the built environment, national security, ecological systems, and human dimensions research.
