The Fairwinds Expedition 2019 announces the availability of sampling opportunities during a circumnavigation of Svalbard and the ice edge. This cruise will take place in the high Arctic aboard the S/Y Fairwinds, a 54-foot/16-meter steel ketch, during the summer of 2019.

Collaborations could include:

Researchers aboard the ship will be running a project using a trailing 200-micron net to sample microplastics pollution in the ocean. Other possibilities being advanced include developing optical algae detection methods in shallow Arctic waters, echo sounding for marine biota in the high Arctic/Fram Strait to study the relationship with ocean warming and carbon transport, and remote beach cleaning in Svalbard.
