Registration is now open for the NSF-sponsored 2019 4th Interdisciplinary Antarctic Earth Sciences conference and for the U.S. Antarctic Deep Field Camp Planning Workshop. The Conference and the Workshop will be held at the rustic Camp Cedar Glen near Julian, CA.

Past attendees of the IAES Conference have expressed appreciation for the retreat-like setting and the opportunities that provides for one-on-one conversations and interactions with diverse researchers. The conference will precede the West Antarctic Ice Sheet Workshop (Oct. 16-18).

The multidisciplinary science conference is for everyone whose research relates to Antarctic Earth Sciences broadly defined. Oct. 13 (9am) - Oct. 15 (noon). This multidisciplinary conference will revolve around the theme 'Intersecting Spheres'. As with the previous meetings, we will follow a single session format that will include invited and contributed presentations, an extended poster session, and informal discussion time to explore new collaborative research opportunities. The program of talks and posters will be organized around 3 interdisciplinary themes:
· Cause and Effect: Inferring Process from Pattern in Antarctic Earth History
· Intentional & Unintentional Collisions: Outcomes of Targeted and Serendipitous Collaboration
· Sticky Edges: Transformative Science at the Margins of Emerging or Existing Disciplines

The goal of the U.S. Antarctic deep field camp planning workshop is to identify key scientific research topics that will help determine the highest priority sites for the next potential multidisciplinary U.S. Antarctic deep field camp. The workshop will be held Oct. 15 (1:30) - Oct. 16 (5pm). The workshop agenda will include: a very brief history of deep field camps, overviews of top-ranked potential sites, disciplinary poster sessions and summaries of common research themes, and multidisciplinary poster session and exploration of opportunities for collaboration. The outcome of the workshop will be community-written summaries of the multidisciplinary research potential at each deep field site. These documents will be shared with the broader U.S. Antarctic research community for comment/additions.
