Title: Ice Edge
My work seeks to describe the organic patterns in the environment. I am fascinated by the movement of water and its transformations with climate. The vastness of the ice at the polar cap, encapsulating in layers the essence and history of our environment. Images in the media of the very edges of the ice shelf slipping into the sea as a result of global warming, are terrifying in their finality.
My piece 'Ice Edge' is a highly textured encaustic wax and mixed media painting on a birch ply panel. Contrasting the depths and translucence of the ocean where it meets the hard, cold, raw edge of the ice shelf. Molten wax is fused to the panel in layers of colour, building up depths mirroring the formation of ice and the translucence of the seas.
