Inspiring Young South African Learners Through Exposure to IPY Science

The national IPY Committee organised a widely disseminated launch of IPY and the making of a documentary film. The polar science conducted during IPY was communicated regularly to young learners through participation in Polar Days, IPY activities and presentations by Polar Scientists and by members of Antarctic overwintering teams. Science outreach to the public was facilitated by exhibits and activities at Science Festivals, radio interviews with overwintering scientists in Antarctica and public lectures by Polar Scientists.
