An Italian teacher was staying at the McMurdo base in the Antarctic to document the phases of the Andrill project at first hand. The news updated daily on the Progettosmilla.it site enabled us to understand the importance of the research underway. The students were particularly struck by the possibility of live interaction with the activities at the base exploiting the potential of the internet. We were able to ask the teacher to explain the phases and motivations of the Antarctic research via a dedicated chat room. We were also able to observe a number of laboratories and parts of the base at first hand during a video conference using a laptop.
