Executive Committee Elections 2021-2022
APPLY for the APECS Executive Committee to help shape our organization over the next year and help influence the future of polar research! The elections for the 2021-2022 APECS Executive Committee will be held in September 2021 for the term from 1 October 2021 to 30 September 2022.

The APECS Executive Committee (ExCom) consists of five members, who are elected by the APECS Council to manage the day-to-day decisions of the organization. You can find information about the ExCom on the APECS website, including some general information, the list of current ExCom members, as well as summaries of their meeting notes.

- 17 - 30 August 2021: Review period within the APECS Council including Q&A with ExCom applicants
- 1 - 8 September 2021: Voting period within the APECS Council
- 9 - 30 September 2021: Final vote count, review of results, transition process
- 1 October 2021: Announcement of the 2021-2022 APECS Executive Committee and President
Who is eligible to apply?
The Executive Committee is a rewarding, very high-paced and work-intensive committee, and its members must be willing and able to contribute actively throughout their term on a daily basis via emails (except during e.g. field work, exam periods, holidays of course) and attend the online ExCom calls every two weeks. This is why we require applicants to meet certain criteria:
You are eligible to apply for the APECS Executive Committee if you are a member of APECS and have prior experience in either ...
... the APECS Council (current or past); or
... one of the APECS National Committee leaderships; or
... a coordinating / leading role in an APECS project, workshop or other APECS activity.
You are not eligible to apply if you ...
... are not an APECS member
... do not meet the eligibility criteria
... have been a previous member of the APECS Council and have been removed from it due to inactivity or other reasons.
Please note that for the work on the APECS Executive Committee a good background knowledge of our APECS activities, projects and internal processes is required as one of your roles will be to mentor and advise our many committees, project groups and other activities. If you have not been actively involved in APECS before, we strongly recommend that you gain some experience on our APECS Council, National Committees or Project Groups first before applying for the Executive Committee.

How to apply?
If you have been involved in ExCom meetings, e.g. as previous ExCom member, temporary replacement, Council / Committee chair, National Committee Coordinator, Social Media Coordinator) you will have a good idea about the work on the ExCom. You can submit your application at any time by filling out this application form by 16 August 2021 at 23:59 GMT. Feel free to contact the Election Coordinators with any questions you might have.
Please note that you have to upload a short (maximum 60 seconds) video of yourself as part of the application form. This video will be played at the APECS Council call in September to introduce ExCom applicants to the Council. Please include in this video your name, why you want to apply for ExCom and why you think you would be the perfect candidate and Council members should vote for you.
Your application material (excluding the video) will be publicly posted on the Elections website after the application deadline.
If you have never been involved in ExCom meetings, please follow these steps (all of them are mandatory to complete before the application deadline):
Step 1: Contact the Election Committee to let them know that you are thinking of applying and arrange for a call with them. This call is so we can discuss with you the work that you would have to do on the ExCom and answer any questions you might have. Only after that call will you be invited to submit your application.
Step 2: Submit your application by filling out this application form by 16 August 2021 at 23:59 GMT.

What is the process for applicants after the application deadline?
Your application will be publicly posted on the Elections Website so that our Council members have a chance to review it.
The video you uploaded as part of your application, will be made available in a “view only” folder for APECS Council to introduce ExCom applicants to the Council members and for review/decision-making.
The Council will be voting on your applications from 1 - 8 September 2021.
The Election Coordinators will contact you on 9 September 2021 with the election results.
Not elected candidates will have a chance to apply for the Council leadership.
