The International GEOTRACES Summer School: Introducing Polar Parameters will take place from 10th to 15th July 2022 at the Helmholtz-Centre Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven, Germany.

It will offer training possibilities for ~50 students, with a combination of lectures and hands-on training in marine geochemistry of trace elements and their isotopes.

The Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS) and the Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee (IARPC) Collaborations invite registration for an Arctic research virtual speed networking event on Tuesday, 26 April 2022, 9:00–10:30 a.m. AKST/1:00–2:30 p.m. EST.

Over the course of 1.5 hours, event participants will be split into a series of small groups to rapidly get to know one another, explore shared research interest areas, and identify potential collaborators for future Arctic research projects. Groups will be organized across diverse disciplines, knowledge systems, and career levels - all are welcome!

Navigating the New Arctic (NNA) International Meeting @ ASSW 2022

The U.S. National Science Foundation’s Navigating the New Arctic (NNA) initiative aims to improve understanding of Arctic change and to advance actionable knowledge through convergence research—collaborative research that draws on information and expertise from across disciplines and knowledge systems, including Indigenous Knowledge, to solve complex challenges. NNA aims to empower new research partnerships from local to international scales, diversify the next generation of Arctic researchers, enhance efforts in formal and informal education, and support co-production of knowledge with Indigenous Peoples.

Technology Developments to Advance Antarctic Research: A Workshop

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine invites you to join a workshop to foster community-wide discussion about harnessing cutting-edge technological innovations to advance, facilitate, and transform Antarctic and polar research; to increase the reach of Antarctic and polar research while reducing the environmental footprint of these operations; and to facilitate broader, more diverse participation in Antarctic and polar research. While focused primarily on Antarctic science, the workshop will explore lessons from, and solutions applicable to, Arctic science as well—and we actively seek to draw insights from science and engineering fields beyond polar science.

We are pleased to announce the call for abstracts for the 6th WGNE Workshop on Systematic Errors in Weather and Climate Models, ECMWF, Reading, 31 October to 4 November 2022.

Abstracts are due 31 May 2022.

The workshop brings together a wide range of experts on simulating the Earth System including atmosphere, ocean, waves, land-surface, atmospheric composition, cryosphere, and associated disciplines to advance the understanding of systematic simulation errors at all timescales. A particular emphasis is given to identifying errors in complex coupled systems and to understand their root causes.

The 51^st International Arctic Workshop – an interdisciplinary conference focusing on Arctic Quaternary geology, palaeoceanography, palaeoglaciology, climatology, palaeoecology, geomorphology and related disciplines and with a strong student emphasis – will be held this year at the Svalbard Science Centre in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway from the evening of June 19^th to Thursday June 23^rd 2022 and with an optional two-day field excursion in Isfjorden on Friday June 24^th and Saturday June 25^th.

Registration is now live at the website with a deadline for registration and abstract submission on May 16^th 2022.

We have had some great feedback on the PYRN Seminar series and want to invite the PYRN community again to present at one of the next seminars.It does not matter if you are an undergraduate, Master student, PhD or PostDoc, the only requirement is that you are researching permafrost.

We usually have 3-4 speakers per seminar and a great discussion afterwards.

The session "Open Science: Best Practices, Data Sovereignty and Co-Production" is part of the Arctic Science Summit Week 2022 and a collaborative effort between the Arctic Data Center, ELOKA (Exchange for Local Observations and Knowledge of the Arctic), and NNA Community Office (Navigating the New Arctic). The session will be held at 8am-12pm EST online. Online registration is free.

The work of the Navigating the New Arctic Community Office (NNA-CO) is guided by two advisory boards—a Research Advisory Board and an Indigenous Advisory Board. We invite nominations and self-nominations for an early career (< 8 years since terminal degree) NNA researcher to serve on our Research Advisory Board. The Research Advisory Board provides overall strategic guidance for the NNA-CO’s plans and activities to support the NNA Community.
