MSc/PhD in Arctic and cryosphere

The understanding of human impacts on geo- and ecosystems through time is crucial for sustainable exploitation of many natural resources. The Department of Geoscience has a long history of achievements in the area of reconstructing past environmental changes spanning most geographical regions across the globe with special focus on the Artic. In particular, the fact that climate change is driven by complicated non-linear feedback mechanisms requires long time series of multiple proxies recorded in geological archives.

Focus areas:

  • Marine and terrestrial palaeo-archives
  • Glacial processes and environments, and solar dynamics investigating ocean-atmosphere-cryosphere interactions
  • Sediment generation and re-distribution by water, wind, and ice
  • Shaping the surface of the Earth surface by erosion and deposition
  • Sea ice development
  • Dynamics of glaciers and ice sheets
  • Formation of soils and vegetation dynamics
  • The interaction between humans and the environment.
